FESTIVE FUN EVENT FOR

SEFTON SHARED LIVES SERVIC

Around 100 people from across Sefton involved with an innovative form of supported accommodation for local adults gathered for their annual Christmas party this week.

Hightown Cricket Club was the venue for the fun event organised by staff from the Southport-based Shared Lives Service, run by one of the borough’s leading adult social care providers, New Directions.

A disco, a raffle, a hot-and-cold buffet and party games including old favourite Play Your Cards Right were part of a packed programme of activities at the well-attended get-together.

Shared Lives gives people the opportunity to benefit from a safe, friendly and supportive environment by living as part of a carer’s family.

This can be a permanent arrangement, or organised on a respite basis. In each case the emphasis is on supporting the person using the service with forming new relationships, broadening his or her experiences and becoming more independent.

Shared Lives Assistant Manager, Sandra Kay, commented: “The Christmas party is a great way for people who live in Shared Lives settings across the borough, and their carers, to get together with the Shared Lives staff  team and enjoy this special time of year.

“It was a very enjoyable evening, with lots of fun and laughter, and we’ve had some great feedback from people who attended.

“As we come to the end of the year, we celebrate another 12 months of success for the service in terms of providing a high quality of life, choice and friendship for the people involved with it,” added Sandra.

Staff at Shared Lives are always keen to hear from potential new carers. For more information ring 01704 829514.
