NETHERTON DAY SERVICE WELCOMES

VISITORS WITH A DIFFERENCE

People who attend a Netherton day service for adults welcomed some visitors with a difference at a special event this week.

Staff from Falkirk-based animal encounter company Zoolab dropped into the New Directions South Hub on Park Lane to present their Halloween roadshow and introduce people who attend the service to their cast of colourful creatures.

These range from giant snails, millipedes and cockroaches to lizards, snakes and friendly rats.

Some of the audience were understandably a little hesitant at first, but Zoolab’s local ranger soon got them in the party spirit.

Before long everyone was keen to get ‘up close and personal’ with the animal characters, with the corn snake from North America and leopard gecko from Asia proving particularly popular.

Julie Jones, Manager of the South Hub, commented: “This was a very successful event and the people who use our service were delighted at the chance to get hands-on with these unusual creatures.

“Zoolab believe that this type of animal therapy brings people together and helps them to see things from a different perspective, and this was certainly true at our event.”

The South Hub – run by leading Sefton adult social care provider New Directions – provides a caring and friendly day service which aims to help people who attend to develop, gain new skills and grow in confidence.

It offers a wide variety of sessions, from arts and crafts and cookery to exercise classes and music therapy. For more information ring 0151 705 6677.
