On March 23rd, Brookdale Dementia Day Service joined the nation in marking the National Day of Reflection. Brookdale came together to reflect. Everyone who attended last Wednesday took part in 1 minute’s silence at 12 noon to remember those special people they have lost over the last year. Brookdale celebrated the day by giving everyone in attendance a daffodil and a card. The daffodil is a symbol of hope, renewal, and resilience, which felt especially poignant after the challenging year we’ve all had.

In addition to the daffodils, Brookdale also invited a special guest for some pet therapy: a tortoise! The tortoise was a hit with everyone who attended the day service. Pet therapy has been shown to have many benefits for people with dementia, including reducing agitation and improving mood. The National Day of Reflection was a meaningful way for Brookdale to come together as a community and acknowledge the challenges of the past year. It was a time to reflect on the losses we’ve experienced and to look forward with hope for the future.
