Apprenticeships Programme: New Directions launches ambitious scheme aimed at applicants with experience in receiving care

New Directions has launched fourteen new apprenticeships; twelve offer key career development and experience in adult social care environments, and two are planned for administrative posts.

The apprenticeships programme is designed to offer career, learning and development opportunities for people New Directions supports as well as the wider Sefton community.

These health and social care apprenticeships see applicants go on a sixteen-month rotation through three of New Directions’ diverse range of services. Successful applicants are provided with a choice of services that they may list as priority placements. Each service placement offers a unique look into a range of different styles of care services that each offer support for a variety of needs. All apprenticeship positions offer a pay rate equal to the national minimum wage.

“I would strongly recommend any young person to grab the chance to work with such a supportive group of people, my New Directions family.” – Isabel Navarro-Woods

The apprenticeship programme builds on New Directions’ commitment to Sefton Council’s Caring Business Charter, offering workplace opportunities across the business to care for experienced young people, details of which can be found here.

Mark Fox, Managing Director of New Directions, said the new apprenticeship programme achieves two key goals.

“Not only are we developing the next generation of the care sector workforce – a crucial requirement to continue to deliver existing care needs now and in the future – but we are also holding true to our values as well as aligning our opportunities with Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council’s care leaver strategy.

Our apprenticeship programme will give young people we support, as well as candidates from the wider community the independence, confidence, and skills to enter – and thrive in – the workplace. Our programme has the potential to change lives.”

Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age to apply for our social care apprenticeships due to the requirement to deliver personal care.

Hopefully, we can make an impression on Isabel and others who follow her lead that
this is a vocation, a career and a calling that they want to continue doing this for many years
to come.
