New Centre Stage

Boosting confidence and creativity – on stage!

New Centre Stage is a day service providing creative empowerment through song, dance and drama.

Run by New Directions’ South Hub, New Centre Stage offers drama, musical theatre, therapeutic drama, issue-based drama and creative dance. Through partnerships and community projects, people using New Centre Stage build confidence and self-esteem while developing better communication skills.

The people we support have the run of a fantastic fully equipped studio theatre within the David Brown Centre in Netherton.

The 90 audience capacity theatre is regularly standing room only when the New Centre Stage family present plays, musicals and shows they have developed.

Impacts & Outcomes

All productions are co-produced with the people supported and roles assigned based on personal objectives, such as boosting confidence and improving independence.
Shows are designed either as standalone productions or tied to a theme, such as Mental Health Awareness Week, to ensure people supported have a strong sense of the issues affecting both them and wider community.
Success for people supported has meant additional days in care in the service for a number of people – providing better value for money for commissioners and independence budgets.
