Do you have a background in social care? Have you heard of Shared Lives?

New Directions’ Shared Lives Scheme is a fantastic way for adults with learning disabilities to live in a warm, supportive environment sharing a home with their Shared Lives carer. As a Shared Lives officer, you will lead on the matching process with carers and adults with learning disabilities. You will be involved in recruiting and assessing, training carers (self-employed) who have a spare room in their homes. Work carefully to partner them well with someone who needs support, comparing interests, needs and personalities of all concerned to come up with the right fit for everyone. Shared Lives carers can be single people, couples, or families so the matching process can be challenging. Once the arrangement is underway, you will monitor the arrangement, coaching and mentoring the shared lives carers. You will develop constructive relationships with all concerned including the Local Authority and Social work team.

As a member of a small team, the post-holder will carry out the tasks necessary to operate the Shared Lives Service to ensure that the service complies with all relevant legislation and standards.

Relevant experience in a social care setting and experience of working with people with learning disabilities is essential. A Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent is also an essential requirement.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required.
