Held between 11 am and 3 pm, the fair featured a wide range of handmade offerings created by talented individuals supported by New Directions’ North Hub.
The event was a true celebration of the season, with an impressive selection of Christmas trees, wreaths, and festive decorations crafted from recycled materials generously donated by local community members. These unique, eco-friendly creations added a personal touch to the fayre and showcased the talent and creativity of the people involved in New Leaf’s activities.
A Day of Festivities and Local Talent
In addition to the beautiful decorations, visitors were treated to a range of delicious homemade food and drinks, including warming soup, freshly baked cakes, mulled wine, and hot beverages, all served with a festive smile. The atmosphere was further enriched by live music from the local band Stringalong, who performed a wonderful selection of Christmas classics, setting the perfect mood for the occasion.
Guests could also explore the centre’s polytunnel and Victorian greenhouse, where a variety of plants and garden creations were on display. For those looking to enjoy a bit of fresh air, nearby Victoria Park was also open.
A Collaborative Effort
The Winter Fayre was the result of hard work and collaboration between New Leaf’s staff and the people they support. Everyone involved in planning and preparation brought the event to life. This collaborative effort highlighted the sense of community and shared purpose that defines New Leaf, where individuals not only tend to the garden but also take part in every aspect of the centre’s operations, from creating and crafting to hosting events like this one.
About New Leaf Garden Centre
Located in Rotten Row, Southport, North Hub’s New Leaf is a multi-activity centre offering a wide range of opportunities for people with learning disabilities. The centre’s activities include everything from planting and growing to tending to gardens, polytunnels, and wildlife meadows, as well as creating garden crafts and furniture using recycled materials. New Leaf offers individuals the chance to be involved in the entire life cycle of a plant, from seeding to selling, and encourages creativity, sustainability, and a sense of pride in their work.
The Winter Fayre was a perfect example of how New Leaf continues to bring people together, celebrate the festive season, and showcase the talents of those supported by New Directions. We look forward to next year’s event and the continued success of the New Leaf Garden Centre.
