We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Shirley Smith, a long-term respite user at Woodlands for over 30 years.

Our Deputy Manager at Woodlands Claire Sweeney wrote these words on behalf of everyone at Woodlands to express what a loss Shirley is.

“Woodlands would like to pay tribute to our long-term respite user Shirley Smith.

Shirley has used our respite services for over 30+ years. Woodlands was a lifeline to Shirley, when times were hard for Shirley Woodlands was always there to help.

Shirley was a big character who had an impact on so many people, her independence and never-give-up attitude was inspiring to all. The staff will all miss the sound of Shirley coming through the door shouting “Hiya Queen,” or “Do us a cuppa there please girl?” The tenants are all saddened to hear the passing of Shirley and have said they will miss her so much.

We will all miss Shirley so much but find comfort in the beautiful memories we shared with her.

We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Shirley’s Mum and brothers at this incredibly difficult time.”
